Data strategy and analytics built for your industries

Effective data strategy and analytics must reflect the realities of each industry. A utility, healthcare system, manufacturer, or distributor all operate with different regulatory, operational, and customer demands. Since 2008, DI Squared has helped organizations across utilities, healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing, retail and distribution, financial services, and energy build data foundations and analytics strategies aligned to how their businesses actually operate.

Why industry context changes a data engagement

A churn model in a regulated utility is not the same problem as a churn model in a subscription retailer. The data is shaped by rate cases, service territories, and customer programs the regulator approved three years ago. The same is true in healthcare, where every encounter carries a payer mix, a coding implication, and a compliance perimeter. We build analytics that fit your business: your industry, your culture, your team’s capabilities. That phrase is not a slogan. It is what separates a dashboard that ships and a dashboard that gets used. Industry context tells us which questions matter, which data is trustworthy, which is suspect, and which integrations have to clear a security review before anyone writes SQL. Our consultants merge thoughtful architecture with long-term strategy because the platform choices a CFO signs off on today have to keep paying back through the next regulatory cycle, the next acquisition, or the next rate filing.

What is consistent across every engagement

The technology choices vary. The methodology does not. Every industry engagement, from a community hospital’s first data warehouse to a publicly traded utility’s analytics modernization, runs through the same four stages.

1

Discover.

We diagnose the current state across people, process, platform, and governance. In utilities that often means MDM and CIS extracts; in retail it usually means POS, e-commerce, and loyalty data; in healthcare it is EHR, claims, and ancillary systems.

2

Map.

We document objectives, requirements, and current state into something the operations team and the CFO can both read. Industry context is where this stage earns its keep.

3

Navigate.

We identify the most valuable first steps and partner through implementation, change management, and ongoing monitoring. Industry SMEs from your side are part of the working group.

4

Adjust.

As regulators, executives, and budgets move, we help capabilities keep paying back. Industry rhythms (rate cases, fiscal calendars, quality reporting windows) shape this work directly.

The platforms we apply, in context

We are vendor-neutral, but fluent in the platforms that matter. The right stack for a 200-bed hospital is rarely the right stack for a multi-state utility, and we will say so. Across industries our consultants regularly work with Qlik (where we hold Elite Solution Provider status and have been Qlik Solution Partner of the Year three times), Power BI, Tableau, and Looker for analytics; Snowflake and Databricks for data platforms; Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud for infrastructure; dbt and Fivetran for engineering and pipeline; and Collibra for governance. Industry pages below note where we tend to land for that sector, and why.

Who DI Squared serves inside these industries

Most of our industry engagements involve a CIO or CDO sponsor, a CFO who needs to see ROI tied to a real plan, and an operations leader who has been waiting for analytics to keep up with the business. We are most useful when the conversation has moved past “we should do something with data” and into “we need to choose a path and stop stalling.” Our consultants have shipped on both the business and the technology side, which means we can sit in either room and be useful.

Frequently asked

Industries, answered.

A: We serve utilities, healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing, retail and distribution, financial services, and energy. Utilities is our deepest practice, with delivery experience going back to our founding in 2008.

A: For early discovery and platform decisions, a strong generalist can be fine. For implementation, regulated industries (utilities, healthcare, financial services) tend to benefit from a partner that already understands the data models, the compliance perimeter, and the operational rhythms. The risk of a generalist is not skill, it is the time spent learning your industry on the meter.

A: Our consultants stay current through direct work with clients in each sector and through our partner network. We do not provide legal or regulatory advice, but we design data strategy and analytics that respect the constraints (HIPAA, NERC CIP, PCI, SOX, state PUC reporting, and others) your team is already governed by. We work alongside your compliance counsel and your auditors, not around them.

A: Utilities. We have delivered data strategy, and analytics work in utilities continuously since 2008, including AMI rollouts, regulatory reporting modernizations, and customer operations analytics. Healthcare and manufacturing are close behind. We will be candid in early conversations about where our depth is greatest in your sector.
